What Dean Does at No Parking Studio

Dean records his solo albums and Dog on Fleas albums, and produces other artists. He has written music for television (PBS Kids, Nickelodeon, MTV) and theater.

  • Solo artists. Dean will produce/engineer/mix the project from start to finish, playing whatever instruments are needed, or hiring the right musicians for the project.

  • Full band recording. No Parking is a small studio, but Dean has recorded many full bands. For the most part Dean prefers the live, down and dirty approach where musicians are playing live together in a room. But there are isolation options. Listen to samples of recordings done at No Parking to see if it works for your sound. Dean has produced bands in other studios in the area when No Parking isn’t right for the job.

  • Pre-production. Highly recommended! Dean is great at looking at the long view of a record/project, honing in on the artist’s vision and helping to clarify with song selection, arrangements, instrument choices, finding additional musicians,

  • Dean can also mix a project that has been recorded elsewhere.

  • Dean is a multi-instrumentalist, playing (in order of expertise) trombone, keyboards, bass, guitar, percussion, drums, etc. On occasion Dean has added instruments to projects being recorded elsewhere, ie long distance overdubs.

  • Dean does a lot of horn section work (Titus Andonicus, Felice Brothers, Varnaline) and can add horns to your record with trombone, saxes, trumpet, flute with the help of his many horn playing accomplices.

  • Podcasts/Book on Tape. Dean has been working extensively with David Levine of the Teaching Empathy Institute, recording resources for teachers, students, school leaders, and mental health professionals.
